The BCHL playoffs are still going on, but the West Kelowna Warriors are already working towards their 2019-20 roster.

Today, the club announced that forward John Evans (‘02) has committed to the team for the upcoming campaign.

Evans has spent the past four seasons with Delta Academy of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, racking up 20 goals and 52 assists in 35 games last season.

“John is coming off another terrific season with the Delta Hockey Academy who have developed him on and off the ice,” said Brandon West, Warriors’ head coach and GM.

“John is going to have a bright future here with us and we expect him to be a leader in the offence in due time.”

West said the team feels that Evans is an “elite 2002” who will make things happen on the ice for the Warriors.

The 17-year-old already has a bit of BCHL experience, as he suited up for eight games as an affiliate for the Surrey Eagles, registering one goal in that time.

“Brandon West was coaching in Surrey when I attended Eagles training camp last year so he got to know my game,” said Evans.

“When he was hired to coach West Kelowna it made sense for me to play for Coach West and the Warriors.”

Evans said he’s made some improvements in his defensive game over the past year and tries to focus on that kind of play leading to getting opportunities offensively.
