VIDEO: Fireside Festival 2024 begins Friday

The 9th annual Fireside Festival is set to go this weekend at Kelowna's Red Bird Brewing and BNA this weekend.

Friday and Saturday at Red Bird, the event is on the patio, a bold choice for February.

"Yeah, it is bold, but we tried it out for the first time last year and it definitely worked," said Fireside's Heather Leslie.

"People came out for it, people dressed up for it, there were no issues with warmth."

Fire pits and heat lamps make sure of that.

And having it in February makes it the perfect chance to kick the winter blues.

"It's time to get the community together," said Creative Director Aaron DeSilva.

"Wake up, come out of hibernation and have the best weekend all winter."

Friday night at Red Bird, there is a country element with Dawson Grey.

Saturday there's music all day, with a hip-hop and EDM vibe in the evening.

Sunday, at BNA, it's bands all day, and it's kid-friendly until 10 pm.

"Sunday is basically the coolest house party you'll be at all year," said DeSilva.

He said the beginnings of the festival brought local bands together to watch each other play and it's grown from there.

"It's grown into now bringing in artists from across the country to come join us."

Fireside lineup features over 30 acts, all of them Canadian, and two thirds of them are local.

"It's definitely a huge celebration of not only Canadian talent, but especially what we've got going on here in Kelowna."

The lineup is bound to draw in fans, but for many people it will be a chance to see some local talent they haven't seen before.

"There's going to be a huge amount of discovery for a lot of people and that's kind of the joy of this festival," said Leslie.

Along with the music there are visual arts, dance and spoken word performances throughout the weekend.
