As Fort McMurray burned in 2016, videos of people fleeing the wildfires started to surface online and go viral.

The footage looked like it was from a “highway from hell” as evacuees drove through high walls of flames surrounding both sides of the road.
 

Fast forward to 2017 and thousands of people are now fleeing the wildfires in B.C. and that included Sally Aitken on Monday.

The U.B.C. professor got video footage of multiple parts of her and a companion’s escape from the Hanceville fires that are burning near Williams Lake.

In the video you see them go from an area of mostly smoke to being surrounded by flames.

The last few seconds of the footage show them on a stretch of road that is so full of black smoke that it looks like the road ends three feet in front of their car.

Aitken and her companion made it out of the area and, thankfully, there have been no reports of anyone getting stuck while trying to flee any of the B.C. wildfires thus far.
