Victoria residents should expect to pay a little more for all-day parking.
On Thursday, the City of Vitoria council agreed to increase the daily maximum parkade rates in hopes of freeing up spaces for short-term parkers and shoppers.
Parkades on Centennial, Johnson, View and Broughton will be raised to $16, and Yates will be raised to $17.50.

According to council, daily all-day parkers take up 30% of the spaces with another 25% of the spaces being rented out monthly.
This leaves less than 50% of parking spots available for the rest of the public.
As of June 1, staff plan on implementing another 10% pay increase.

In order to support the next phase, council will be contracting a consultant to develop the city’s Sustainable Mobile Strategy (SMS).
The study will examine:
- Targets and strategies for desired mode-shifts and mode-performance (vehicle, transit, cycle, pedestrian, parking)
- Assessment of best-practices and emerging trends, technologies, and associated opportunities/risks,
- Urban transportation system performance measures and data management plan
- Action plan (short, medium and long-term) with associated resource implications
