This is some breaking news!

  • Vice & Virtue is building a patio

Vice & Virtue Brewing Co. has been a welcome addition to Kelowna’s craft brewery scene.

The only thing you could argue that they’ve been missing is a patio, but that’s about to change.

Work is underway to add a 22-person patio outside the front doors of their location on Richter Street.

“We’ve been talking about it since we opened last year or before that, but we decided to hold off on it and just get the inside dialed first,” said General Manager Matt Jewell.

Jewell says the construction of a patio was always pegged for spring or summer 2019 and work on that project has now started, nine months to the day after the brewery opened its doors.

The patio will have a similar feel to the one you’ll find at Red Bird Brewing, a nearby brewery on Richter Street.

It’ll be around the same size and also feature a couple of tables and some standing room, with beer service still coming from inside the building.

But that same beer service is the only thing stopping the patio from opening in the coming days.

While the patio has been approved the City of Kelowna, Vice & Virtue is still waiting to receive approval from the liquor board.

As a result, the patio likely won’t open for a few more weeks, but Jewell anticipates it’ll be open in time for people to enjoy a few beers on it this summer.

“Obviously I’d hope to get it open as soon as possible. It’ll be built,” he said.

“We’ll be ready by the time the liquor board gets around to hopefully approving it and giving us the go ahead.”

Whenever it does open to the public, it’ll surely be a popular addition to the city’s always expanding brewery district.

It’ll face the right direction for afternoon beers as the sun will be shining down on the new patio from the west.
