Vehicle fire closes Coquihalla northbound near Merritt

A vehicle fire just outside of Merritt has closed northbound lane of the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5).

The closure is between the junction between Hwy 5 and Hwy 97C and the exit 290 turnoff into Merritt.

As a result, anyone looking to continue northbound towards Kamloops will need to turn off at the junction and take Hwy 5A as a detour through Merritt.

Once driving through Merritt, you’ll be able to re-enter Hwy 5 and proceed northbound.

Drive BC says an assessment is in progress and another update will come soon.
