Yesterday, a snowfall warning was issued for Hwy 1, but today it’s Hwy 3 that looks to be the issue.

Heavy snow is starting to accumulate around the Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass.

Five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected today, with another 15 to 25 cm forecasted overnight after a brief break this afternoon.

Environment Canada has issued an alert regarding the predicted snowfall and says it will likely ease up on Wednesday night.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” says the alert. “If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”
