  • The Ultimate Outdoor Fete serves up wine and food for a charitable cause

Around 20 people gathered in a small and intimate setting to take part in The Ultimate Outdoor Fete last night.

NowMedia was lucky enough to attend and is still recovering from a food coma!

The cozy setting, which was kept a secret until the day of the event, was located on a private property in the Mission with a view of local vineyards and the lake.

The four hour long event was host to a one-of-a-kind, four-course meal that was paired perfectly with different local wines.

Each dish was sourced locally when available and seemingly more delicious than the last.

Dishes included Similkameen gazpacho, avocado and grapefruit tartare, puff pastry tart with organic Kelowna oyster and mushroom, Similkameen green tomato and bacon jam puff pastry tart and rose petal pudding.

And what’s a dinner party in the Okanagan without local wine?

Two local winemakers from Naramata, Mireille Sauvé of Dames Wines and Bradley Cooper of Black Cloud Wines, were on site to pour and explain the winemaking process behind each bottle.

Talk about dinner and a show!

A local band by the name of Jonny Bottlerocket was also in attendance to supply us with any type of music from smooth blues to heavy rock and roll.

And as the drinks kept pouring the music got louder!

Laura Milnes and Andreas Batten were the masterminds behind the event.

“I couldn’t have been more elated with how the event transpired, the weather, the food, the wine but most importantly the people – I’m incredibly grateful for the support we received from not just the guests but all of our friends and family who pitched in to make it a true success," said Milnes.

Milnes was a hands-on organizer and could be found doing anything from clearing dishware to engaging with guests.

While this event was a great excuse to get out and try something fun, it was also a reason to donate to charity.

Milnes has a passion for supporting the community and held this event with the intention of submitting a portion of the proceeds to Les Dames d'Escoffier, BC Chapter scholarship fund for women in the service industry.

Don’t worry if you happened to miss this event. Milnes plans on hosting The Ultimate Outdoor Fete once a month with donations going to a different charity each time.
