(UPDATE: 12:30 a.m.) – All lanes of traffic travelling northbound on Hwy 5 near Merritt are now open.
(UPDATE: 11: 20 p.m.) – Highway 5 is now open both northbound and southbound.
There is a lane closure in effect for northbound traffic and delays are expected.
Highway 5 southbound near Merritt was opened earlier Sunday night to single-lane traffic.
(UPDATE: 9:08 p.m.) – Drive BC pushed back the estimated opening time from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. and then later rescinded the opening time due to another incident drawing Police attention.
"Due to a police incident at Mine Creek, we are having to rescind the estimated opening time of 10 p.m." reported Drive BC.
The Highway will remain closed northbound between Hope and Merritt until further notice.
(UPDATE: 8:20 p.m.) – Five people have been transported from the scene of a vehicle incident that occurred northbound on Highway 5 south of Merritt.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) reported that one patient was transported from the incident to hospital in via air ambulance and was in critical condition.
The four remaining patients were transported by ground ambulance. They were in stable condition.
No transports were reported to have been dispatched to the incident north of Merritt heading southbound on Highway 5.
(Original Story: 7:50 p.m.) – A series of accidents occurred on the Coquihalla Highway Sunday evening leading to closures along both directions on Highway 5.
A vehicle collision heading northbound at Exit 238 has closed Highway 5 from Hope to Merritt, reports Drive BC, with no detours available at this time. Drivers will instead have to venture an alternate route via Highways 1 and 8. Drive BC is estimating the road will be open by 9 p.m.
Heading southbound, Highway 5 has been closed 10-kilometres north from Merritt due to a vehicle incident.
Detours for around this incident have been directed via Highway 97D to Highway 97C. Crews are currently assessing the incident but have not yet determined an estimated time of opening.
