Tributes are pouring in from around the world as many mourn the loss of musical legend Prince.

The singer-songwriter was found dead at his Minnesota home early Thursday morning at the age of 57. Many have been stunned by the artists’ passing and everyone from fans, to other musicians, to politicians have reflected on the passing of the musical icon. More information has been released surrounding Prince’s death from the Carver County Sheriff’s Office in Chanhassen.

According to police, the 911 call came into the sheriff’s office at about 9:43 a.m. and when officers arrived at Prince’s Paisley Park Studios he was found unresponsive in an elevator. First responders attempted to provide CPR, but they were unable to revive him. Prince Roger Nelson was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.

People everywhere have been honoring the music legend with the colour purple and taking to social media to express their dismay.

The cause of death will be determined through an autopsy, which is scheduled to begin on Friday.
