The University of Northern British Columbia’s Men’s soccer team has officially announced the commitment of Victoria’s Theo Weismiller for the 2018-2019 season.

Weismiller is a product of Reynolds Secondary and has played as a youth player in the Wage program under Timberwolves coach Steve Simonson.

Having been a teammate Jonah Smith, Cody Gysbers, Aidan Way and Joel Watson, Weismiller is no stranger to the Timberwolves.

“I’m really stoked. I’m so excited. The facilities are sick, the team is awesome. All the guys seem great so far, my roommates who I’ve known since high school are awesome, and obviously, Steve is a great coach. I am really excited to be here,” says Weismiller.

Weismiller arrived at UNBC this year after spending a full year at the University of Victoria.

“I’m definitely going to have to get a little more physical. Get stronger, work on my cardio. I think that will be the big step for me. I like the gym, and I like going for runs, so it shouldn’t be a problem,” said Weismiller.

Weismiller has been training with the Timberwolves at the Northern Sports Centre.

He says the Timberwolves training climate is indicative of the UNBC program heading in the right direction.

“The transition hasn’t been too difficult. All the guys seem so nice so far. They’re genuine guys, good for a laugh, so they’ve made the transition really easy," says Weismiller.

This six-foot-two attacking midfielder will also have the opportunity to play as a wing.

With a strong love for the game, Weismiller hopes to make a lasting impact on the team.

“I’ve been playing the game my entire life. Since I was four, I have had the ball at my feet. I am fast, smart, good with my feet, I can beat players, and I can definitely shoot,” says Weismiller.

Weismiller plans on pursuing a joint major in political science and international studies.
