Breaking News:

This is some breaking news!

  • The temperature will stay below freezing for the rest of 2017

It’s going to be a chilly end to 2017 in the Okanagan.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Monday regarding cold and snowy weather for the next week and that trend is expected to continue until the end of December.

On Tuesday, a deepening Pacific low-pressure system will track up and across northern Washington State.

The result of this system will be heavy snow starting Monday night and continuing through Wednesday morning for most of the southern Interior and Kootenays.

With the snow will come falling temperatures, as the high for Tuesday and Wednesday is -1°C and be Wednesday night it’ll fall down to -8°C.

There will be a bit of a break in the snow for Wednesday, but it’ll return on Thursday with a high of -3°C and that’s when the temperatures really start to fall.

Highs for the weekend before Christmas hover around -5°C with overnight temperatures falling to double digits in the negatives.

According to The Weather Network’s 14-day forecast, that will continue for the entire week between Christmas and New Years.

The snow is also expected to return that week and it’ll truly feel like winter, with the final four days of the year calling for highs of -11°C.

On the bright side, it looks like the Okanagan will finally get some outdoor rink action by the end of the year.
