In this episode of Business Matters, presented by Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union, host Rob Cupello is joined by Emily Hubbard, Marketing Manager at Chances Casino Kelowna to talk about what it was like working in one of the hardest hit industries during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Having her workplace shut down for 16 months was challenging, to say the least, but Emily says that the team at Chances was determined to keep their spirits high and keep looking forward to their eventual reopening.

“We found ways to give back to the community throughout the closure with the food bank and the SHARE Society…things like that kept us engaged,” says Emily.

As a casino that got their start as a community gaming centre, contributing to a stronger, healthier community is nothing new for Chances. They are proud sponsors of many local charities and are often organizing fundraisers and community-driven initiatives.

So, even when they were closed for a very long stretch of time, they stayed very involved in the community, and Emily says that their commitment to staying present and engaged was a huge advantage when they were eventually allowed to re-open.

If you walk into Chances today, which is operating at 50% capacity as per public health restrictions, Emily says you can expect some changes if you haven’t been in a while. The iconic bingo hall has been repurposed—at least for the time being—to allow more distance between slot machines, and they’ve now opened up a section with table games.
