Zach Dallas is a news videographer by day, still photographer by night (sometimes literally!), living and working in Prince George, BC. Like most people it seems, Zach arrived in PG with the goal of spending one or two years in the city before moving on. Two and (almost) a half years later, he’s still here! He loves spending time outdoors, capturing the raw beauty of Northern BC.

Why do you use Instagram?

Instagram is a great way to connect with like-minded photographers and anyone looking for new perspectives on the world. Plus it’s a great way to share interesting places and things with people who may never get the chance to experience themselves.

What will people see on your feed?

I tend to shoot mostly landscapes, but try to switch it up every once and a while and add in some astrophotography, wildlife, and fine-art type photos.

Do you have a specific style?

Clean, simple, natural. I don’t over edit my photos, leaving them (mostly) as-shot.

Favourite Instagram accounts to follow?

@heatonthomas – a landscape photographer based in the UK. Thomas also has a great YouTube channel where he takes viewers along while he’s out and about shooting.

@universetoday – a different astrophotographer takes over the account each day. There are some amazing photos posted.

How do you decide on the locations for your shoots?

I am fortunate that my day job involves driving around PG and the region. Sometimes I’ll be driving along and wonder where a road ends up, or I’ll spot a cool natural feature. On my day off, I’ll go back and shoot it. Other than that, Google Maps, Flickr, local/regional hashtags, and aimless driving.

Biggest Instagram moment?

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to take over the @universetoday Instagram account back in June. It came as a total surprise, and the feedback I received was incredible.

Favourite hashtags?

The two I scroll though most often are #CityofPG and #ExploreBC.

Why do you follow PrinceGeorgeNow?

Although PrinceGeorgeNow is in its infancy, it looks like it has good potential for giving some ideas for new photography locations and ideas, and events in and around PG. I try to keep up with what’s happening in town, and this will be another valuable resource.
