Born and raised In Prince George I did spend some time away to study photography in Victoria then moved to Japan for a year and a half as my siblings at the time were all living there. (So wish Instagram was alive then). Came back to PG and started a photography studio which I still run as Philomena Hughes Photography focusing on doing contemporary portraits for families, personal branding and magazine style portraits. I also give workshops and photography classes at my new location at 423 Dominion St. I have 2 grown children, a MRS. and two Labradoodles.

Why do you use Instagram?
Honestly, it was a way to connect with my teen daughter in 2012. She would come up with ideas and I would just push the button. It took a bit to see how I wanted to use it but I love connecting with so it was a way to share with other some of those stories, trips and daily life in Prince George.
What will people see on your feed?
My trips B.C./world, our doodles, scenes of our city, landscapes around our city, not too many of me but my 87-year-old Mom gets a lot of likes and feedback from people. Though many tell me their mom is gone, they appreciate seeing mine and admire what she gets up to.
Do you have a specific style?
I love to keep it simple but sometimes I do drift thru the filters and posting styles but I really love the full square as it allows me to reconnect to my Hasselblad (2 ¼ square) days.
Favorite Instagram accounts to follow?
Sarahwest.photo (my awesome niece) Smithers Outdoors Snowboarder PLUS.
apexx_nation just met Jared here in PG and really like who he is and his perspective.
ridge_side_art PG Girl Christina Watts has an art shop and workshops for all ages and interests.
Lots of photographers but other art forms really help me stretch my imagination and appreciation.
How do you decide on the locations for your shoots?
I don’t really “decide” I just go about my day and see something and think that works or doesn’t. I give myself self-assignments every once in a while, like last trip to Mexico I wanted to show everyday people at their job.
Biggest Instagram moment?
Oh my yes, when a photo of my mine of mom dancing at Heatwave came in second place for #celebrate150 . Mom couldn’t understand why at all. I love it.
