Breaking News:

This is some breaking news!

  • Sunday Social Connection: @myrtleandmossphotography

I am a passionate photographer from Victoria, BC Canada. My heart is set on fire when I photograph people who love madly. All types of love — passionate lovers, families, fresh souls, and self-love.

As well as being a photographer I am Mommy to a beautiful four-year-old boy, wife to an incredible husband and RN. I moved from Calgary to Vancouver Island with little family and two dogs coming on three years this fall.  With my background as a labour and delivery nurse, I will always have a special place in my heart for photographing expecting parents and fresh babies. I have a newborn studio located in Langford, however, spend much of my time shooting couples, weddings and teaching photography workshops for other creatives. I have been shooting for 12 years but have been doing this fulltime since we moved to the Island. I am happy and grateful to be able to have a fulltime career doing something I am absolutely passionate about!

    Why do you use Instagram?

I use instagram to keep my followers up to date with my latest work, upcoming workshops, travel notices and keep them entertained with my live feeds and stories! I love connecting with others through social media and following other local artists, photographers, local businesses and even booking clients through this platform!

What will people see on your feed?

You will see lots of couples ridiculously in love. You will see lots of gorgeous sunsets, windswept hair, and along with all the west coast scenery, you will also see some beautiful scapes from across the world as my business has allowed me to see many beautiful parts of this planet. My feed is quite passionate and emotional, and my goal is to get my my viewers actually feeling the emotion in the photos. I have a separate account for all of my newborns, expecting parents and families, which can be seen at instagram.com/victorianewbornphotography

Does your page have a specific style?

If I had to put words to my specific style, I would say my images are on the darker side (but warm and inviting at the same time), rich in tones and texture.

How do you decide on your location for shoots?

Usually, my first thing I look at is where the light falls. I typically shoot into the sun so it has a huge part to do with my location selection. I love textures and interesting backgrounds. The ocean is always a great place to shoot, but I am also just as happy shooting into a wide open field of tall dead grass and a wicked sunset. Sometimes I feel ambitious and a little crazy, and get my clients to meet at sunrise for their session! Obviously living on Vancouver Island we have a lot of gloomy days, so I also have learned to embrace the dark and pull of some dark and moody images that lack a warm sunset. Honestly though, as much as an awesome location is great, it's also nice to just photograph my couples in their own element at home on the couch!

    Biggest Instagram moment?

I would have to say it was when one of my images reached nearly 100K people — it was of a heavily tattooed couple I photographed on Cannon Beach, Oregon. Other than that, getting featured by some of my favourite and most influential accounts: @dirtybootsandmessyhair, @wedphotoinspiration and @junebugweddings. Oh and one more, hitting 25k followers organically felt pretty special, although I try not to focus on numbers because it's not a race and doesn't really matter haha.
