My name is Amelia, I was born and raised on the island here in Victoria. I am 19-years-old. I love to sing, play the drums and the piano. I've always been passionate about learning languages. I think this is because I've grown up with homestay students which I am really grateful for. I love connecting with people from other cultures. I would say my second language is Japanese, however, I am nooo where near being fluent. I have a long way to go.
Another thing I love is taking photos and videos. Ever since I was young my friends and I would make videos or do little photo shoots. I have always dreamed of having my own DSLR so last year I finally bought one. I am excited to see how I can grow in photography now that I have some somewhat good equipment.
Why do you use Instagram?
I absolutely love Instagram. I love being inspired by all the different kinds of photography and being exposed to new creative ideas. This is probably the main reason why I use it. There are so many things to see and no matter what you are passionate about I guarantee you can find it on Instagram. I also use Instagram to stay in touch with my friends from around the world. It's nice to see what they're doing with their lives and their personal photo style.
What will people see on your feed?
Since I am still experimenting with my new camera you never know what you'll see on my feed at the moment. Whatever inspires me I guess. I haven't found what I am most passionate about when it comes to photography so I am trying different things. I think at the moment you'll see a lot of nature and architecture, but I also want to become better at taking pictures of people (I need some volunteers). Something I would love to try is fashion photography. Until that happens you will probably see more pictures of my life, nature and things around Victoria. I hope that my photos will become more creative as I progress.
Does your page have a specific style?
My style or theme is kind of all over the place right now. At times I try to stick with an Instagram theme but since I take pictures of whatever I find, it's hard to stay within whatever the theme may be. I really like taking pictures in low light but then the next day I would take pictures outside in the sun. If anything I try to go for a more purple tone with my photos. I hope that I can find my specific style soon but of course, it will change with me over time.
Favorite Instagram accounts to follow?
Some of my favorite Instagram accounts to follow are moodyports, instapray, mylifeaseva, korean.ootd, stylenanda_korea, demibagby, stevenfurtick, lonijane, andrew_visuals, tokyo_one and of course brandonwoelfel. When I first saw his photography I was in complete awe. He is so talented and really inspires me in my photography.
How do you decide on your location for shoots?
For some reason when I am driving with my dad I always seem to get inspired. If we pass somewhere interesting I try to make a mental note of that place for a possible photo spot. Luckily Victoria is such a picturesque city it's not too difficult to find a good place to take photos. I also think I am more spontaneous when I take photos. Whatever catches my eye, if I have my camera, I will stop and take a few photos. If I don't have my camera with me then I will take a photo of something or a place with my phone as a way to remember the thing or place for future possible shoots.
Biggest Instagram moment?
I've never really had any moments on Instagram. No one has ever asked me interview questions like this before, so perhaps this is my biggest Instagram moment! I hope someday I can create a bigger following but what's more important to me is that I showcase things I like and use Instagram as a creative outlet.
Favorite hashtags?
My favorite hashtags would have to be #moodyports, #pursuitofportraits, #visualsoflife, #ulzzangcouple and at the moment #seoulfashionweek.
Why do you follow VictoriaBCNow?
I follow victoriabcnow because they showcase awesome photos taken right here in Victoria. I get to see different accounts of local photographers who took the photos which is great. Seeing so many cool photos that are all from the island is really awesome and makes me feel inspired to go out and see what's in the town waiting to be photographed.
