(Original story: Jan. 3 @ 6:45 am) – The two busiest routes in and out of the BC Interior won’t be easy driving to start the weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for both the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) and the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1).

It calls for a strong Pacific storm to bring precipitation to the Coquihalla, which will start as rain today and turn to snow as the temperature drops tonight.

Heavy snow will fall at times throughout the night before slightly tapering off on Saturday and changing over to flurries later on Saturday evening.

Around 15-25 centimetres of total snow is expected.

The Trans-Canada, on the other hand, will see a winter storm bring most of its snow to the area around Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass today before it eases into wet flurries tonight.

Around 15-20 cm of total snow is expected.

Of course, weather like this can cause hazardous driving conditions and reduced visibility, so drivers are urged to make their travel plans accordingly and drive cautiously.
