  • Sections of trails closed at Cottonwood Island Nature Park

    Sections of trails at Cottonwood Island Nature Park will be closed for trail rehab.

    Trails are being revitalized to extend hiking season and mitigate the effects of flooding and erosion in low-lying areas of the park.

    In 2017, the City rehabilitated roughly 300 metres of trails at Cottonwood Island Nature Park.

    This year, 240 m of additional trails will be revitalized along with the improvement and extension of walkway railings.

    This City as contracted crews for the following projects:

    • Trails near the new bridge to Cottonwood Island are being levelled and raised by three feet. Contracted crews have started work and are anticipated to complete the trail upgrades by the end of July.
    • The trail section across the bridge by the canoe launch will be levelled and raised by a foot. In addition, new extended culverts will be installed to reduce the effects of flooding season. Work is scheduled to start in the fall.
