Wildfire season is ramping up and on charity is ready to respond.

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services has mobilized emergency response units to be ready to support first responders around the province.

That includes in West Kelowna and Penticton, where the Salvation Army already has some of its 18 emergency community response units on the ground.

These mobile canteen units are equipped with stoves, fridges and grills to serve on location, but have the ability to quickly relocate should circumstances change.

“We are uniquely positioned to respond quickly in times of crisis,” says Mike Leland of The Salvation Army. “Our priority is providing those being impacted practical and emotional support to help see them through devastating circumstances.”

Last year, the Salvation ARmy provided support in 12 communities during B.C.’s record breaking fire season.

More than 260,000 meals and hydration items were provided to first responders, evacuated fire victims and others affected by the devastation.
