(UPDATE: Dec. 24 @ 12:15 pm) – Crews have completed a clean up of Hwy 97 after an overnight rockslide forced the closure of the road.

The incident happened shortly after midnight between Oliver and Okanagan Falls and resulted in traffic being blocked off in both directions.

(Original story: Dec. 24 @ 6:40 am) – Crews were forced to close Hwy 97 between Oliver and Okanagan Falls overnight.

The closure is due to a rockslide, which happened shortly after midnight.

A post to the Penticton Facebook group shows a picture of the large rocks in the middle of the northbound lane.

Carrie-Lyn MacDougall, who shared the photo, said only the northbound lane was closed, but DriveBC tweeted that both lanes are blocked off.

An assessment is currently in progress and no estimate on when the road might reopen.

There is a detour available via Hwy 3 and Hwy 3A through Keremeos and Kaleden.
