James Porter won’t have to go far to join his new team.
After starting the year as the Kelowna Rockets’ number three goaltender, he’s been reassigned to the Vernon Vipers.
It’s a chance for the 19-year-old Idaho native to get some game action, as he’s been in the press box for all 15 Rockets games this year.
"We feel there's an opportunity in Vernon for James to get some games in," said Bruce Hamilton, Rockets GM.
"It's critical right now as he hasn't had any playing time here, the most important thing for James is to get him playing."
Porter was selected by Kelowna in the seventh round of the 2015 WHL bantam draft and suited up for 73 games for the Rockets over the past two years.
However, he’s found himself as the odd man out behind Roman Basran and Kelowna native Cole Schwebius, who was acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds this past summer.
The Vipers have a record of 12-7-1-0 through 20 games and find themselves in fourth place in the BCHL’s Interior Division.
