  • RCMP winter Counter Attack campaign catches 13 impaired drivers

During the holiday season, the Prince George RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Section was out in full swing.

The Municipal Traffic Section setup numerous Counter Attack check stops throughout the community to seek out impaired drivers.

According to Prince George RCMP, the traffic volume was down compared to last year. RCMP suspect this could be due to weather conditions.

During the campaign 13 impaired drivers were apprehended:

    • 5 were issued 90-day license suspensions and a 30-day vehicle impoundment, for blowing over 100 mg%
    • 5 were issued 3-day license suspensions and a 3-day vehicle impoundment, for blowing between 60-99 mg%
    • 3 were issued 24 hour suspensions for having alcohol or drugs affecting their ability to drive safely.

In addition, three people were charged under provincial legislation for having open liquor in vehicles.

    • 2 seatbelt offences.
    • 2 distracted driving offences for using a handheld device (cell phone) while driving.
    • 32 other violation tickets were issued for various moving and administrative offences.
