(UPDATE: May 28 @ 2:10 p.m.) – Two weeks after warning Peachland residents about the safety of their tires, the RCMP are extending that warning into West Kelowna.

The warning comes to West Kelowna after a woman from the Shannon Lake area lost her front driver's side tire while driving on Saturday.

Thankfully, she was driving her Subaru Outback at a slow speed close to her home and was uninjured in the incident.

“These reckless acts compromised each of the vehicles and placed at least four lives at unnecessary risk,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“While driving along the highway, one of the victims noticed mechanical issues with the front end of her vehicle and chose to drive to a Kelowna automotive shop, where she learned about the apparent sabotage.”

Residents who find similar damage or tampering to their cars are asked to report their discoveries to the RCMP. 

Police are also encouraging residents to review any video surveillance they may have to check if they see any suspicious activity.

(Original story: May 15 @ 8:10 a.m.) – Police are sending a warning to Peachland residents and anyone who may have visited the area in the last 24 hours after reports of wheel tampering.

Members of the West Kelowna RCMP responded to the 6200 block of Whinton Crescent around 10 a.m. on May 14 after receiving a call about mischief to vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the lug nuts to multiple vehicles in the area had either been loosened or stolen completely.

“It did not occur to the vehicle owner that there was something wrong until he was driving downhill and the car started to shake,” said Cpl. Meghan Foster.  

"While there have been only two reports of this and no accidents attributed, we would like to warn people who reside in, or have visited the area to double check the safety of their vehicles.”

There was also one case of gas being syphoned from a car’s tank as well.
