  • UPDATE: Lake Country RCMP identify suspicious man, cancel public plea

(UPDATE: May 28 @ 1:55 p.m.) – The man who took photographs of a woman walking alone in Lake Country on Sunday has come forward to police.

After hearing from him, the RCMP don't believe his intentions were criminal in nature.

“It seems as though the local resident was also suspicious of our complainant and decided to obtain her photograph for identity purposes," said Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey.

O'Donaghey said that residents are still urged to remain vigilent and be mindful of suspicious activities and people in their neighbourhood.

"We ask that you report those encounters to police at your earliest convenience, especially if you have decided to capture photos of possible persons of interest to police," he said.

"This will allow our investigators to determine whether or not a crime has in fact been committed.”

Police have since updated the complainant on the outcome of this investigation.

(Original story: May 27 @ 12:30 p.m.) – RCMP in Lake Country are hoping the public can help them identify a man who was allegedly taking photographs of a woman who was walking alone on Sunday.

The encounter reportedly took place around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Davidson Road and Artela Road.

Police were told that the man, associated to a charcoal grey SUV believed to be a Ford Explorer, pulled to the side of the road ahead of the woman.

She then diverted her path and walked down an alleyway of Davidson Road.

“As the woman stood in the alley, the suspect vehicle drove alongside her and seemingly snapped a photograph of her with an electronic device,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“In an effort to get away and out of sight, the woman fled on foot westbound along Davidson Road and turned onto Artela Road.”

O’Donaghey explained that the woman was scared to encounter the man again and that he allegedly took a second photo of her.

She ran to a nearby house and called her spouse to come pick her up, while the suspect’s vehicle was last seen travelling down Davidson Road towards Okanagan Centre Road East.

The suspect is described as a man in his 50s who’s around 5’8”, 220 lbs with a large muscular build, bald head, clean shaven face and was seen wearing a blue jacket.

If you know the man’s identity, or if you have additional information that could assist police in their ongoing investigation, you’re asked to contact the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.

You can also remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
