After more than two months without significant rainfall, there might be some wet stuff this weekend.

Environment Canada is calling for a 60% chance of showers late in the afternoon on Saturday.

That chance of rain will also come with the potential for thunderstorms, however, which isn’t ideal for the fight against wildfires.

The 60% chance of showers will continue into the evening and overnight into Sunday, at which point it’ll decrease to a 30% chance of rain.

Sunday is also the start of a cooler stretch for the Okanagan, with a high of only 23°C.

According to long term forecasts, the temperature isn’t expected to get over 30°C again until the end of the month, if at all.

Since April 1st, there have been 954 fires that have burned 621,000 hectares of B.C., making it the second worst fire season on record behind 1958.

The cost estimate from the BC Wildfire Service is $254.3 million spent on fighting the fires so far.

Currently, there are 148 fires burning throughout the province with 3,700 personnel and 234 aircraft working to contain them.
