Prince George’s downtown will see some serious changes over the next few years.

Changes will include:
- A new four-phase housing development with underground parking across from City Hall
- The opening of a new Marriott hotel
- The development of a proposed new hotel on 6th Avenue between Quebec and Dominion Streets
- The design and construction of a new pool to replace the Four Seasons
- The design and construction of a new front entrance for the Bob Harkins Branch of the Prince George Public Library
- The development of a new park next to the Wood Innovation and Design Centre
- The completion of UNBC’s Wood Innovation Research Lab
- A new location for the Prince George Farmers Market 1310 – 3rd Avenue. The building is also the future location of a new arts-based community centre

“We’re now seeing an unprecedented amount of development in downtown Prince George,” says Lyn Hall, Mayor of Prince George.
“Over a decade ago, the City developed a concept plan, called Smart Growth on the Ground, which envisioned a path to a sustainable and vibrant downtown. This Council has made a commitment to advance, through our Corporate Plan, many of the ideas laid out in that strategy including incentives, events, and new facilities and services.”
The City has already planned a number of developments for the summer, including:
- Construction of a city-owned parkade across from City Hall
- Demolition of the old RCMP building
- Demolition of the current farmers market
- Permanent closure between 7th Avenue and Patricia Blvd to allow construction of subsequent housing
- Demolition of the Days Inn Hotel
The City has published a webpage with more information about the downtown progress that will include road closures and upcoming construction.
