  • UPDAE: Evacuation alerts lifted as crews get Peachland wildfire held

(UPDATE: Oct. 1 @ 4:45 pm) – Evacuation alerts have been lifted for properties near the Munro Lake wildfire in the Peachland area.

As of Thursday afternoon, the ZipZone Adventure Park is the only address under evacuation order due to the fire.

The Munro Lake fire is held and crews continue to directly attack the fire while establishing and reinforcing containment lines along the perimeter of this wildfire.

No additional updates were provided by the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations centre Wednesday afternoon.

(Original story: Oct. 1 @ 11:15 am) – One small positive element to a fall wildfire is that there are typically more resources available than during the busy summer months.

That certainly seems to be the case for the Munro Lake wildfire just outside of Peachland, as there are currently 100 BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) firefighters assigned to the blaze.

Thanks to their hard work, the BCWS says the wildfire is now considered held, which means it’s not expected to spread beyond its current perimeter.

Although the fire size increased slightly to 383 hectares over recent days, most of that can be attributed to planned ignitions that were carried out over the weekend.

Evacuation alerts for properties on McDougald Road, Pierce Street and Princeton Avenue remain in place, as does the evacuation order for the ZipZone Adventure Park at 5875 Brenda Mines Rd.

With this latest development over the fire’s status, those will likely be lifted in the near future.

The Munro Lake wildfire originally broke out on Thursday, Sept. 25, and is believed to be human-caused.
