Drivers are being warned of an overnight closure on Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon Sunday night.

The highway will be closed at Tank Hill to allow for final paving work on the road.

The closure, which is 14 kilometres east of Lytton, will begin at 11 pm on Sunday and will last until 7 am on Monday.

All motorists are advised that checkpoints will be in place at the intersections of Hwy 1 and Hwy 12 as well as Hwy 1 and Hwy 8 to redirect traffic to alternate routes.

Those routes include the Coquihalla (Hwy 5) and Hwy 3.

Message boards will also be set up in Cache Creek, Lillooet and Ashcroft with details about those detours.

Emergency vehicles will still be allowed through.

Local traffic will also be able to access the Gladwin area, north of Lytton, and Nicomen River Road, south of Spences Bridge.

Work has been ongoing on this stretch of the highway due to repairs from the 2021 floods.

As a reminder, a major bridge replacement is planned for another area of Highway 1.

The Sackum overhead bridge, which is located about 22 kilometres east of Lytton and 13 km south of Spences Bridge, is set to be replaced this fall.
