  • Pathways Abilities Society shouts out two key members

Pathways Abilities Society always ensures that they are giving thanks to the businesses in our community that work hard to cultivate Kelowna’s inclusive and diverse culture through partnerships with the organization.

Not only do they take the time to highlight the employers that provide workforce opportunity to Pathways clients, but they also work hard to internally celebrate the accomplishments and work ethic of those who wear the Pathways employee badge with pride.

Having said that, the organization is giving a special shout out to two key members of the bottle crew program to honour their “substantial contributions” at the Kent Road Columbia Bottle Depot donation station over the years.

Both Aaron and Howard have been on the Pathways bottle crew for quite some time now, and according to Pathways job Coach Susanne Rados, throughout their career they have proved to be integral team members with strong work ethics, dedication and positive attitudes.

“Aaron always completes tasks put forth and will not end his day until all of the required clean-up is complete,” said Rados.

“When Aaron first joined the bottle crew, he consistently greeted me every morning with ‘What’s the plan?’, ‘You’re the Boss, I only listen to you’  and often stated 'Count me in, I love this job,'" she added.

Not only does Aaron put a smile on Rados face each day they work together, but according to her, he'as made quite the impact on a number of depot staff.

Amber Pearson, an employee of the Dease Road Columbia Bottle Depot, has become one of the ‘most vocal advocates’ in favour of the Pathways Bottle Crew.

According to Rados, Amber says that her experience of working with the crew helped to shift her perspective in regards to individuals with diverse abilities.

She adds that while her and the crew may not work as closely together now, she sees their relocation to the Kent Road depot as an opportunity for more Columbia staff to have the same positive experiences.

Howard has been working with the bottle crew for a number of years and was recently promoted to a Team Lead position. With his new title, Howard has already been exceeding the expectations of management, as he has worked quickly and efficiently while still staying organized.

“Howard is well respected by his co-workers and the various staff of Columbia Bottles that he communicates with during the variety of jobs he performs,” said Rados.

“[His] promotion and proven ability has provided him with the opportunity to supervise a crew of independent individuals, I can sincerely say that I could not run this program without him,” she explained.

With an ability to keep calm during stressful situations and adapt quickly to ensure things are always running smoothly, Howard has proven his leadership skills time and time again, all the while keeping the workplace positive with his witty humour.

“When I am in a state of stress or frustration he throws out a one-liner that almost brings me to tears with laughter," said Rados. "He has many qualities that I admire and I am privileged to work along-side him."

To celebrate the contributions of Howard and Aaron, each of them had their photos posted to the depot’s ‘Team Member’ wall and enjoyed a tasty lunch with their colleagues.
