Starting today, you need to be in possession of a face covering that covers your mouth and nose if you want to travel with BC Ferries.

The new directives and guidance from Transport Canada says that all passengers above the age of two must be in possession of one, but only need to wear it when a physical separation of two metres can’t be maintained.

It's for both walk-on and driving passengers on any route longer than 30 minutes.
 

“Passengers will be asked to confirm they have a face covering and are willing to wear it when necessary,” says a release from BC Ferries.

“If a passenger answers ‘no’, or fails to answer, they will be unable to travel. Customers must bring their own face coverings as BC Ferries will not be supplying them to travellers.”

The Public Health Agency of Canada says a face covering should be made of at least two layers of tightly woven material fabric, like cotton or linen, and fit securely to the head with ties or ear loops.

It needs to be large enough to completely and comfortably cover the nose and mouth without gaping.

Along with this safety precaution, BC Ferries will continue to screen all passengers for COVID-19 symptoms and restrict travel to anyone who doesn’t meet the screening requirements.
