  • One Window at a Time with Best Value Blinds

For Kim and Dennis Schade, business has always been personal.

    Best Value Blinds

As the husband-and-wife team behind Best Value Blinds, they have built their Kelowna business on simple values: good service, honest pricing, quality products and treating people the way they would want to be treated.

They are the kind of business owners who answer the phone, show up for the consultation, do the measuring, complete the installation and stand behind the finished product. From start to finish, customers work directly with Kim and Dennis.

That personal approach is part of what helped Best Value Blinds earn silver in Best of Kelowna this year.

“We’re small, local and family-run,” they share. “We do everything ourselves.”

For them, that matters. In an industry where customers can order blinds online, measure their own windows and hope everything fits when it arrives, Best Value Blinds offers something much more personal. Kim and Dennis walk customers through the process, help them choose the right product for their space and make sure the installation is done properly.

There are no hidden fees, no subcontractors and no getting passed from person to person. Just two experienced local business owners who care about getting the details right.

Dennis has been in the blinds business for about 17 years, while Kim joined him over the past couple of years after running her own wholesale floral company for three decades. While blinds and flowers may seem like very different worlds, the values behind both businesses are surprisingly similar.

Kim built her previous business on quality and customer care, and she has brought that same mindset into Best Value Blinds. Dennis, meanwhile, is meticulous with installation and has a strong eye for detail. Together, they make a team that is equal parts practical, personable and precise. They also happen to be best friends.

There is an easy humour between the two of them, the kind that only comes from years of working, living and building a life together. Dennis jokes that his plan is to get Kim fully trained on measuring and installations so he can spend more time on the golf course. Kim, for now, does not seem to be taking the bait. It is that mix of professionalism and personality that customers seem to remember.

“We enjoy dealing with people,” they say. “We meet strangers, and by the time the job is done, they feel like friends.”

At its core, Best Value Blinds is about helping people make their homes more comfortable, functional and beautiful. In the Okanagan, where so many homes are built around natural light and incredible views, choosing the right window coverings can make a significant difference. One of the most common questions Kim and Dennis hear from homeowners is how to reduce heat and harmful UV rays without sacrificing the spectacular valley views that make living in the Okanagan so special.

“We have great solutions for that,” they explain.

While Best Value Blinds offers a wide range of products and styles, many customers are surprised to learn that certain screen-style roller blinds can significantly reduce glare, heat and UV exposure while still allowing them to enjoy their view. It is a practical solution for homeowners who want greater comfort and energy efficiency without feeling closed off from the scenery outside.

Dennis is quick to point out that sometimes the best advice is knowing when not to cover a window at all. If a blind is not needed for privacy, sun protection or heat control, he would rather help someone preserve their view. But for many homes, especially those facing the Okanagan sun, the right blinds can make a space far more comfortable.

Motorized blinds have also become increasingly popular as the technology has become more affordable. While some customers initially see them as a luxury, many quickly realize how convenient they are. With the push of a button, blinds can open or close together, and some can even be set on timers to bring in natural light in the morning. Of course, function is only part of the story. Updated blinds can also completely change the look and feel of a room.

Whether replacing older vertical blinds, upgrading a living space or adding a clean, modern finish to a new home, Kim and Dennis believe the right window coverings can add real value. For them, the work is about more than product. It is about showing up, doing the job well and making sure people feel confident in their choice.

    Best Value Blinds

After nearly 40 years living in the Okanagan, Kim and Dennis are proud to serve the community they call home. They love the lifestyle, the scenery, the people and the chance to build a business that still feels personal. Winning silver in Best of Kelowna was a meaningful recognition, especially for a business that has grown largely through word of mouth, referrals and strong customer reviews. And while Dennis is already joking that next year they are going for gold, their focus remains the same:

Local service. Quality products. Honest work.

As if running a blinds business together was not fitting enough, their last name is Schade. And for this husband-and-wife team, helping homeowners find the perfect shade is something they truly enjoy.
