It was a tough Sunday for Okanagan Sun fans, as for the second consecutive year, the team’s only loss of the season came in the Canadian Bowl. 

The Sun were on the road taking on the Saskatoon Hilltops for the national title and the game came down to the wire as the Hilltops took the lead with 27 seconds on the clock, eventually holding on for the 21-18 win. 

The win marked the 24th time the Hilltops had been crowned Canadian Bowl champions.

Down 16-4 to start the third quarter, the Sun’s offence saw some life when Marcus Christos ran in a touchdown to make it a five-point game.

The Sun then gave up their third safety of the afternoon as the Hilltops took an 18-11 lead into the final frame. 

With a minute and a half left in the game, Liam Kroeger ran the ball into the end zone to even the score. 

With the clock winding down, the Hilltops got within field goal range and Ryden Gratton booted the game-winning score.

The Sun were unable to respond and Saskatoon held on for the 21-18 win. 

The national championship will be hosted in BC next year and the Sun will look to return and avenge their two consecutive losses.
