  • Now You KNow! – All about Shannon Lake Elementary’s Playground Fundraisers

Shannon Lake Elementary hosted one of their fundraising events this Saturday, to help get a new playground.

The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) of Shannon Lake Elementary and many of the students spent the day taking turns out front of Save On Foods in West Kelowna selling hot dogs and cold beverages. All of the profit from the hot dog sales will be going into the pool for a new school playground as the one currently at the school is almost 20 years old. Members of the PAC are hoping to have raised $1'000 in sales and donations.

This was the first fundraiser that they have put on in the community as opposed to at the school. "We have received a surprising amount of support today from members of the community, and a lot of great feedback," Said one of the PAC members. "Many people walking into the grocery store would make donations without even taking their hot dogs, or pay for their $2 meal with a $20 bill and leave the change, it's been really great to get this kind of support out in West Kelowna" said another.

A lot of the students got to give a helping hand today, as well as do some learning. The children would take turns running the cash box, practicing their math skills. They were also able to give a lot of laughs and smiles by putting their cuteness to good use by asking people if they would like to get a hotdog or make a donation.

It was a great day for a bbq and an even better day to be out in the community.

If you didn't have a chance to stop by to get a hot dog but would still like to help, you can stop by Shannon Lake Elementary's office to donate. There will be more fundraising events taking place like, the Spring Fun Fair will be on June 10th at the school.
