  • New exhibit featuring Indigenous artists is set to open at the Royal BC Museum

The two-week long showcase was brought to life following the immersive art experience held over the summer where the public was encouraged to interact with featured artists. According to the museum, this gives both artist and viewer the opportunity to deepen their appreciation of cultural perspective and personal heritage through communication.

During the time, artists joined master carvers Tom LaFortune and Perry LaFortune of the Tsawout First Nation, marking the start of a public pole carving program hosted by the museum and the BC Ministry of Health.

This new and unique exhibit will feature a variety of artists including brothers Dave and Johnathan Jacobson of Tsaxis First Nation in Fort Rupert, Tom Hunt Jr. of Wei-Wai-Kum First Nation in Campbell River, Toni Frank of Shishalh First Nation in Sechelt, and the Good Family from Snuneymux First Nation in Nanaimo.

All the showcased works represent the kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish Indigenous language groups.
