Nakusp is known for having exquisite hot springs.
A few notable resorts cater to those who enjoy comfort and luxury in the Kootenay region, however, many hot pools can be found along secret trails and hikes.

The first ones to visit are Halfway Hot Springs.
I mentioned these in our West Kootenay article.
If you missed it, these pools begin at the bottom of a short but steep hike and lead to a beautiful change room, built for soakers.
These hot springs are free, but you can pay to camp nearby.
The first pool is a glorious charcoal blue, built up with rocks and cement.
This hot spring is for those somewhere in between the luxury-goers and bushwhackers.
The pools continue towards the river until you can be touching both the warm mountain spring and the freezing river at the same time.

Our second visit was to an unnamed hot spring, a mossy hike up from Nakusp Hot Springs.
The trail is easy to follow and ends abruptly in the forest. At this point, look left towards the river and climb down the rocky face a few meters until you find the completely natural and hidden pools.

They are guarded against the less adventurous by a maze of poison ivy so watch your step!
Always remember to pack out whatever you pack in.
There are no garbage bins and nothing ruins the magical ambiance of nature like the remnants of careless humans.

On the way to this hidden spot, you’ll pass over the award-winning, Kuskanax Creek Footbridge, a great spot for a selfie and time to admire the beauty of the river.
At the end of the bridge, you can go right for the secret hot spring pools or left for a ten-minute detour to Kuskanax Falls.
Use your sense as you approach, there is no guard rail.
The little town of Nakusp isn’t a hot spot for shopping but they know how to make a great coffee at Mountain Top Coffee Co. where they feature low acid and alkaline coffee along with delicious bakery items and modern decor.

Nakusp is nestled by three mountain ranges, the Selkirks, the Valhallas, and the Monashees. Breathe them in on a stroll down the boardwalk which passes through Spicer Gardens and a small Japanese Garden as well. The boardwalk is a short walk from the main strip, Broadway Street.

Nakusp has something for everyone, my beach bums can enjoy the sandy stretch of Nakusp beach, just past the Japanese gardens. A playground is located across the street for the littles to burn their energy too!
Mountain bikers have networks of trails at Mount Abriel to enjoy and when you’ve worked up a good sweat on the jumps and trails, head to the beautiful beach where the rocks look like pieces of driftwood.
