Spin classes get you to work individually, while feeling inspired to keep up in a group atmosphere. It doesn't matter if you've never stepped on a bike or if you are an experienced athlete, spin classes can be for anyone and everyone.
Nervous that spin might not be for you? Let's uncover what might be intimidating.
Myth 1: Spin only works my legs.
Yes, spin is a high-intensity workout that uses your legs, but have you considered the benefits it provides for your core? Your core is used to keep balance while on a bike, and a tight core will help improve stabilization and contribute to maximizing power. Spin challenges your core, among other muscles, to stay tight to support your legs, buttocks, and calves.

Myth 2: I'm not an experienced cyclist, I won't be able to keep up.
Everyone starts somewhere! Whether you are a beginner, an advanced cyclist, a total pro, or just in it for the challenge, spin can be for you. Go at your own pace and feel motivated to improve and get into the groove of challenging yourself. SPINCO Kelowna advocates on the motivational aspect of their classes and team atmosphere to push you regardless of your fitness level, but they also understand that all riders have a unique skill-level on the bike, so don't be afraid to take your sweet time if you need to.
Myth 3: Spin won't help me lose weight.
Did you know that a high-intensity workout is more beneficial for your body than an hour long jog? Spin uses a variety of challenges such as speed, hills, sprints and more to keep your body guessing and striving to reach it's potential. The variety in these movements helps your body burn more fat and calories than a leisure run would. After class, your body will continue to burn calories and fat from working so hard. Remember, all that hard work shouldn’t go to waste, so make sure that you replenish your body with the necessary hydration and nutrients!

Myth 4: My legs are going to get bulky from spin.
Spin is consistent in toning and leaning out your legs. Your legs will gain muscle and will build as you continue to improve your physical well-being. If you ride at a consistent, heavy pace for a long amount of time, your legs will gain more muscle rather than tone and lean out. This is due to you focusing on the one aspect of the workout, which is heavy resistance in this case. The point of spin is interval training and challenging your legs to ride different paces and resistances. The variation in the workout helps to tone your legs, as well as show new muscles!

Myth 5: I will die.
Calm down, you're being irrational. You will not die, in fact, you will survive and thrive.
