According to his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure, the singer was found dead in his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning. TMZ broke the news early Thursday morning and according to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, investigators are at his home in Chanhassen and and investigation is underway.

The news of the singer’s death has shocked people around the world as an outpouring of support and mourning can be seen on social media. Information surrounding his death has not yet been released, but a statement from his publicist is expected to be released. Reports indicate he was suffering flu like symptoms for several weeks before his death.

Born Prince Rogers Nelson, the American singer-songwriter has been a major figure in popular music for over three decades and is best known for hits such as “Little Red Corvette”, “If I was your girlfriend”, and “I wanna be your lover.”
