Motorists who use Stewart Road West and Bedford Road as part of their commute will be looking at some delays over the coming weeks and months.

According to the City of Kelowna, work will begin Monday on a project involving road realignment, relocation of utilities and the addition of new storm infrastructure.

From Jan. 26 into March, the work will be focused on sections of Bedford Road between Dehart Road and Stewart Road West, as well as Stewart Road West between Bedford Road and Saucier Road.

“These upgrades will enhance traffic safety and support continued community growth,” a City release explained. 

“The project will continue through to the fall, with additional traffic impacts expected later in the year.”

For now, the result of the construction will be single-lane alternating traffic on these stretches of road, which will move along the corridor as crews complete certain sections.

“Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians may wish to choose other routes when possible,” the City release added.

“Travellers are asked to follow traffic management personnel directions, posted construction signage, temporary barriers and lane dividers to ensure everyone’s safety while commuting through the area.”

The City, on behalf of onsite crews, thanked residents in advance for their patience during construction and apologized for any inconvenience.
