  • Man dies after jumping into river from Simon Fraser Bridge at 1 am

    A man is dead after jumping into the Fraser River from the Simon Fraser Bridge overnight.

    Police were called around 1 am after a motorist saw the man jump from the bridge.


     

    Multiple officers quickly rushed to the scene and searched for the man from various points along the river.

    Around 2 am, an officer saw the man in the river and heard him yelling near the Creekside subdivision, around five kilometres from the bridge.

    Cst. Stu Love bravely entered the river, swam around 25 metres to the man and pulled him back to shore.

    He was transported to hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries, including hypothermia, but died shortly before 4 am.

    The identity of the man remains unknown and the investigation is ongoing.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.
