  • Local volleyball teams with a solid weekend on the island

The Kelowna Volleyball Club boys' 18U/17U programs flexed their muscles last weekend in Victoria.

Team KaPow! made it all the way to the finals and lost a close 2-1 battle with the Seaside squad.

Several players had outstanding weekends. Kyle Butterworth did an awesome job setting up our offense.

Cameron Powell had a strong playoff round leading all attackers with 17 kills and three blocks.

Tom Parish showed he could step up his play during the playoffs as well as he also dominated at the net with eight blocks and 12 kills and three aces.

Luke Hanson and Bailey Burdick also gain valuable experience playing full time in the power hitting position.

Kevin Jacklin really made some major improvement in his spike serve as he rattled off seven aces this weekend to go with his six blocks and 15 kills.

Despite missing a key starter at this event the team improved and pulled together as the event went on.

The second place points guarantees that team KaPow! will be placed in the top pool at this years B.C. champions.

Team KaBoom! also had great results, finishing in fourth place out the 13.

The team gained a lot of experience and confidence.

Beating teams like the Ducks Elite 18U squad is a major milestone for this young group.

That win put them in tough semifinal match up against the older KaPow! squad.

The only loses for team KaBoom! came against the older KVC KaPow team 10-25,23-25 and a strong Victoria 18U squad in the bronze medal game.

The final super series event will be held on April 6/7 in Langley.

The B.C. championships are at the Richmond Oval on April 19-20.
