A local entrepreneur has put a twist on a favorite Canadian sport.

Mark Poruchny is a local maintenance worker at Northwood Pulp and owner and inventor of Precision Pucks. 

Over 20 years ago, Poruchny had the idea of creating a weighted, felt puck that could be used as a substitute for indoor and ice-free hockey.

The felt pucks are hand-glued with a leather outside to ensure the puck has the proper weight which gives the game a more realistic recreation of ice hockey.

Since creation, thousands of pucks have been sold worldwide. 

In 2003, Poruchny took his idea to the dragons for the first time. After applying some of the advice that was given to Poruchny, he stepped back into the den in March. 

After a successful pitch, Poruchny was invited to come to Toronto to pitch in front of the dragons for a second time. 

After meeting with the dragons, Poruchny hopes to expand his marketing tactics.

“I would like to see this puck be used in all countries that don`t have the luxury of playing on ice,” says Poruchny.

"I appreciate all the support that I get for Prince George and the people. It makes it a lot easier to do this when you have this much support.”
