Each year, the Civic Appreciation Awards recognize individuals and organizations who have made a significant contribution to the community.

This year, the Community Champion Award of Merit recognized outstanding local volunteerism during the Cariboo wildfires.

Chelsea Wallach and Steve Williams were both recognized for this award.

During the Friday evening gala, Mayor Ly Hall and Council honoured members of the community and organizations in eight categories:

• Recreation and Culture Award of Merit: Zelda Craig, Tianna Dulmage, Bernadette Kipping, Randy Seabrook, Amanda Tarry and Dan Watt
• Access Award of Merit: Spinal Cord Injury B.C.
• Heritage Places Award: The Taylor House – 1872 10th Avenue.
• Community Service Award of Merit: Terry Bryden, Valerie Giles, Brenda Pearson, and Marianne Sprague
• Certificate of Project Recognition: 1811 Spruce Street and 1395 5th Avenue
• Community Champion Award of Merit: Chelsea Wallach and Steve Williams
• 2018 Youth of the Year: Sarah Ash and Shamitha Aravind (honourable mention)
• Outstanding Volunteer Award of Merit: Jeff Elder, Sue Judge, and Gerry van Caeseele
