Hopefully you still have those winter tires on if you plan on travelling east this weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement regarding late season snow on multiple B.C. interior highways.

“A transition to a showery pattern will begin across central and eastern B.C. on Friday evening as a trough of low pressure crosses the province,” says the alert.

“Freezing levels will drop in the wake of the system on Saturday causing rain showers to switch over to snow, particularly over the high mountain passes.”

On Saturday, around five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected for multiple high elevation including Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass on the Trans-Canada Highway and the Paulson Summit to Kootenay Summit on Hwy 3.

Drier conditions are expected to return on Sunday.
