The Kelowna Owls won four straight junior girls basketball games to claim the Victoria Christmas Tournament title on the past weekend.

Opening the season ranked No.1 in the province, the Owls toppled three Top-10 teams en route to the championship in the B.C. capital.

Photo Credit: ContributedThe Owls' Denae Skelton contributed 62 points at the tournament in Victoria.The Kelowna Secondary School representatives waltzed to a 74-4 win over the host Spectrum team in their opener to move on to the quarter-final round. A well-balanced attack saw six players score seven or more points, with Danae Skelton leading the charge by netting 16. Teah Thachyk put together a well-rounded game, finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Owls handled the pre-season No. 2 ranked R.A. McMath 84-19 behind the monster two-headed attack of Phoebe Molgat and Danae Skelton. Molgat, who led the team in scoring for the tournament with 65 points, finished with 24. Skelton totaled 62 points in Victoria, hitting for 28 against McMath and nailing 6-9 from long distance.

The Owls jumped out to an early 20-5 lead and held on for the 10-point win. Molgat led the way with 22 points, and Mekhila Brown finished with a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Owls defeated No. 10 Belmont 56-33 in the championship game.  Once again the Owls ran out to a quick lead and coasted to the victory. Dani Mellon scored eight of her 10 points in the first quarter as the Kelowna team led 24-7 at the end of the first quarter. Kennedy Day led the way with 19 in the final, and hauled in eight boards.
