  • Kelowna’s newest roundabout is now open on Chute Lake Road

There’s a new roundabout in town and this one is big for interconnectivity in one of Kelowna's fastest-growing neighbourhoods.

Earlier this afternoon, the City of Kelowna announced that the brand new roundabout on Chute Lake Road was "anticipated to open" to traffic around 5:30 pm today.

The roundabout smoothly connects Chute Lake Road and Chute Lake Crescent with the soon-to-open Frost Road extension.

However, the finishing touches are still being done on the new stretch of Frost Road that connects the street to Chute Lake Road. The City anticipates that project to be finished by the end of the month.

“Kelowna is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, and we’re planning for that growth with smart infrastructure investments that make it easier and safer for residents to get around,” Mayor Tom Dyas.

“The Chute Lake Road roundabout and Frost Road extension improve neighbourhood connectivity, reduce congestion and enhance traffic safety by improving traffic flow and reducing collision risks for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.”

This work in the Mission is part of a $7.8-million investment that enhances access to Gordon Drive, South Perimeter Way and the Ponds neighbourhood.

Along with improved access in and out of the southern part of Kelowna, the project also includes new street lighting and significant upgrades to water, storm and sanitary utilities.
