Kelowna’s own Mountain Sound is celebrating their third anniversary with a special event.

Over the last three years the trio has perfected their own genre, heavy soul pop, a distinctive sound that their fans flood their shows to hear, since none of it has been recorded and released yet.

Comprised of composer vocalist and pianist, Leila Neverland, cellist, Nils Loewen and percussionist, Dylan Ranney who found each other by chance on the street busking.

“Leila was doing her street jazz and I just jumped in on the drums and ever since we have been making music together,” said Ranney.

”Nils was jamming on the street with a shaker and I walked up to him and said, hey dude, you are playing it wrong and taught him how to do it right, and we have been studio playing together ever since.”

All three musicians had their own musical careers before deciding to join forces for what Ranney describes as truly special.

“We brought all of our energy together and we have a pretty great fan base building,” said Ranney.

Ever since they have  become regulars on the festival circuits, travelling and sharing their message with audiences throughout the province.

“In our hearts we feel authentic delivering what we are delivering, that is something that every artist comes up against in their career,” said Ranney.

“Her (Neverland) songs have a theme of respecting the land that we live on and the gratitude we have and going back to the earth. Just being aware of the truth and acknowledging the truth is so important and with that we can live our lives with joy. Music is so powerful that it has the ability to touch every heart and connect every heart and connect people together, so we might as well do it with important messages.”

To mark their third anniversary Mountain Sound will perform at The NAC with German electronic duo, Psycho & Plastic, a band that the Kelowna based trio met while playing at the ArtsWells Festival in Wells, B.C.
