Although last month was cooler than seasonal, we ended the month with very mild conditions.

The first 12 days of March 2019 had daytime highs all within four degrees of 0°C, but the final 15 days of last month all had highs in the double digits. 

We even experienced the warmest March 20th on record since 1899, beating a 31-year-old record when we peaked 16.3°C on that date last month.
 

March is typically the fifth coolest month of the year behind January, February, November and December, with an average daytime high of 10.1°C and an average low of -2.0°C. 

These averages are based on data between the years of 1981 to 2010.  

Last month the average daytime high was 8.5°C and the average low was -5.3°C.

March 2019 was also very dry having only received 10.0 millimetres of precipitation compared to the seasonal average of 21.6 mm.

The weather station in Kelowna received precipitation on only 6 days out of the 31 days last month – that means we had 25 days of dry weather!

Looking ahead, the month of April starts off with sunshine but showers return later this week.

Signs point to a change in the pattern with more clouds by Wednesday.

Let’s hope these April showers will help bring the May flowers!
