  • Kelowna woman first in the city to receive BC SPCA AnimalKind accreditation

A local dog trainer has received BC SPCA’s AnimalKind accreditation for their commitment to animal welfare.

Two Hearts Dog Training owner and trainer Allison Painchaud received the recognition after undergoing a rigorous auditing process, says the BC SPCA.

They are first in Kelowna to receive the recognition.

The accreditation recognizes dog training companies that follow AnimalKind dog training standards, which encourage evidence-based positive reinforcement tactics.

Nicole Fenwick, manager, research and standards for the BC SPCA, says anyone can call themselves a dog trainer but this accreditation helps pet owners choose trainers who are committed to the well being of the dog.

“In such an environment, it is difficult for dog guardians to know who to trust,” Fenwick says.

“The AnimalKind program helps guardians know which trainers prioritize dog welfare so they are less likely to unknowingly hire a trainer who uses outdated training techniques that will negatively affect the bond between them and their dog.”

Painchaud says she and Two Hearts Dog Training are “honoured” to receive the accreditation.

Painchai, who adopted her own dog Timber from the Kamloops SPCA, says she encourages a healthy bond between humans and their dogs when working on training.

“I believe the bond shared between dogs and their guardians is truly remarkable. Certifications like the AnimalKind Accreditation are so important in helping guardians make the best choice for their canine companion's training needs and well-being,” she notes.

The AnimalKind standards were first set for wildlife control companies in 2018.

Since then, the standards for dog training were launched in 2019.
