Registration is now open for winter art classes offered at the Kelowna Art Gallery. Classes are offered for both youth and adults.

These professionally instructed classes will take place from January through April. The classes offer a wide variety of media to pick from, including acrylic or watercolor painting, calligraphy, drawing, printmaking, illustration or mixed media.

All classes will be instructed by local artists.

“Our aims are to help people to access and channel their creativity, as well as show them how rewarding it can be to participate in the visual arts,” said Laura Wyllie, Public Programming Coordinator at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

Most classes will run for six weeks and are offered to all skill levels.

Beginner classes will have the opportunity to learn about basic art principles as well as how to express themselves through visual art. The more advanced classes will attempt to build on existing skills.

All students will have to complete and take home various works of art.

The cost for each class is $160, or $130 for members of the Kelowna Art Gallery. Those who register before January 14th will receive 10% off.

Weekend workshops will be held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. These workshops will allow artists to explore a particular medium and develop skills along trained instructors.

Some of the workshops will include, Drawing the Strange, Still Life of Objects, Finding the Abstraction in Nature, Imaginative Illustration for Beginners.

Each workshop will cost $90, or $75 for Gallery members.
